As part of the ‘Nava Arogya Dharma Siddhantham’ (New Doctrine of Healthcare) enunciated by Guru, Santhgiri Ashram has taken up the promotion of medical education pertaining to Ayurveda and Siddha. To this end, two medical colleges, the Santhigiri Ayurveda Medical College and Santhigiri Siddha Medical College were inaugurated by the then Kerala Chief Minister, Mr. A K Antony, on the Guru’s 76th birthday on September 10, 2002.
The Santhigiri Siddha Medical College at Pothencode is the only Siddha medical college in India where the medium of instruction is English. The sanctioned intake of students is 50 in each year. The college conducts a 5 ½ year professional graduate course in Siddha Medicine and Surgery. The attached 150-bed hospital gives ample opportunity for clinical practice.
The Santhigiri Ayurveda Medical College at Palakkad was established with the aim of reviving the holistic process of treatment followed traditionally. The college, with a sanctioned intake of 50 students each year, conducts a professional graduate course in Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery. A 100-bed hospital is attached to this college. Deserving students also get an opportunity to undertake research at the Navajyothi Sree Karunakara Guru Research Centre for Ayurveda & Siddha at Uzhavoor in Kottayam district of Kerala.
Separate hostel facilities for boys and girls are available in both colleges.
