Santhigiri Athmavidyalayam, Avadhuta Journey
From Wednesday, May 1, 2024 to Saturday, May 4, 2024
Embarking on a journey to rediscover the sacrificial life of our beloved Guru, this pilgrimage traverses the lands that bear witness to the historical spiritual sacrifices of Guru. It is an opportunity to be there and immerse oneself in the deeply reminiscent thoughts of those momentous spiritual moments.
In an act of self-surrender and complete acknowledgement of Guru’s myriad sacrifices, Guru’s lineage is preparing to traverse an Avadhuta pilgrimage of seeking, embodying the ideals of Sanyasa and Brahmacharya.
Starting from the Guru’s birthplace in Chandiroor and travelling to Kollam, the pilgrimage would the pass through the beaches of Varkala, Beemapalli, and Shankumugham. The journey will proceed to Thakkala, Shuchindram, and finally reach Kanyakumari. This spiritual journey will span four days.
Under the auspices of Santhigiri Athmavidyalayam, the pilgrimage encompasses practices of vows, prayers, chanting, and other spiritual practices in an effort to completely align with the Will of Guru in every aspect. It offers a chance to delve deeper into the life of Guru, marked by reverence, the joy of renunciation, and a deeper understanding of one’s life purpose.
Whether residing in public spaces or seeking solitude for meditation, chanting, or observing a silent vow, this pilgrimage will mirror the lifestyle of an Avadhuta and will undoubtedly be a union of submission and reverence for Guru.
Aroor (Alappuzha): The Avadhuta Yatra of the Shishya Parampara of Santhigiri Ashram founder Navajyoti Sri Karunakara Guru through twenty-five places associated with Guru’s life has begun at Chandirur Janma Griham. Today (Wednesday, May 1st) the prayer started with the 5 am worship.
In the Satsang that followed, Santhigiri Ashram President Swami Chaitanya Jnana Thapasvi gave an introductory speech. The Swami said that Avadhuta Yatra is to know the magnitude of Guru’s sadhana and realize the good fortune we have received.
Chandirur is the promised land of God. Ashram General Secretary Swami Gururatnam Jnana Thapasvi said in his address that the shade we experience here is the light of the Guru, the wind here is the chestbeat of Guru, the harvest song here is the song of God and even the grains of sand here have a story to tell about the travails of Guru. Swami’s words were a direct picture of the Guru’s troubled childhood.
After the 6 o’clock worship, around 200 people, including the Sannyasi Sangha in saffron clothes, the Brahmachari Sangha in white clothes, and the Grihasthas, set out for the Avadhuta Yatra with prayers.
The group will first go to Kaladi Agamananda Ashram, followed by a visit to Aluva Advaita Ashram. The Avadhutha Yatra will be given a welcome at Palarivattam, Ernakulam, Arur, Thambakachuvad, and Haripad.
