This unit specialises in the manufacture of wood furniture, window and door frames etc. It is specially known for its beautiful carving done on doors, windows and furniture.
The unit was started on a small scale to meet the Ashram requirements of basic furniture like stools, chairs, tables and cots. Old timers remember that with hard wood not easy to come by, good wood pieces were culled from lorry loads of firewood and kept aside to make small items like stools. When hard wood was not available, on the Guru’s instructions, soft wood such as mango would be seasoned with salt, washing soda, kerosene and diesel to prevent insect infestation. Some furniture items thus manufactured can still be seen in the Ashram premises.
The Santhi Wood Unit, with specialised cutting machines, works out of a special shed in the Healthcare Zone. It specialises in making simple but exquisitely carved furniture for Guru’s room in devotees’ houses.
