Santhigiri to Set Up Plastic Recycling Plant

Santhigiri: Swami Gururatnam Jnana Thapaswi, the organizing secretary of Santhigiri Ashram has laid the foundation stone for setting up a Plastic Recycling Plant at the Ashram in partnership with Manickal Panchayath, which will make the Panchayath the first in the district to have a plastic recycling unit. The recycling unit is expected to be functional by next month. The Ashram has given the Panchayath necessary land for the recycling unit on lease for a period of fifteen years. The project, which will have a collection counter and a shredding unit would cost around Rs.35 lakhs. Manickal Panchayath aims to be the first plastic free Panchayath in the district after the ban on plastic carry bags by the City Corporation. The Panchayath only needs to invest for the machinery as the land and workforce will be provided by Santhigiri Ashram free of cost, said Sujatha S, the President of Manickal Panchayath.
