Guru seeks to diseminate the knowledge about the relevance, significance and
greatness of Ayurvedam and Siddham and to restore their lost spiritual content
and respectability as well as to keep pace with the changing times, by bringing
about corrections. Those who diligently observe and study the karma of Guru in
the rejuvenation of Ayurveda medical system, will be able to discern that it
was when guru touched upon and paid attention to the revival of this system
that it received worldwide respectability and recognition as a more
human-friendly alternative system of medicine.
Guru initiated Ayurvedam in the Santhigiri Ashram more than three decades back.
Whenever people approached Guru with some kind of illness, besides telling them
about the greatness of prayer, Guru gave them some medicine. One day Guru
called the inmates and asked them to pray. Some herbs were crushed and ground
and were put into an earthen pot to prepare a kashayam. It was given to all in
the Ashram. After that Guru called the inmates and talked about the greatness
of Ayurvedam and how its rejuvenation and growth would be achieved through this
Parampara. Guru said one day we would have big Ayurveda institutions and the
world would respect us and our medicines. People were skeptical at that time
because those were the days when Guru and the inmates did not even have enough
to eat.
When people approached with complicated diseases, besides offering spiritual
solutions, Guru advised them to undergo medical treatment. When the Ashram
Hospital was set up doctors were instructed by Guru to apply different systems
like ayurveda, siddha, homoeo and allopathy. Right from the beginning Guru was
combining different medical systems in the treatment of diseases. The genesis
of the Nava Arogya Dharma Siddhanta is a result of this practice. Through Nava
Arogya Dharma Siddhanta, a new healthcare concept, Guru has given a spiritual
path in medicine to remove the bad effects of previous actions in jeeva, which
act as a hurdle on man's stride towards truth and goodness. The establishment of Ayurveda and Siddha Research Centre in the ancestral home of the former
Indian President late Dr. K. R. Narayanam at Uzhavoor in Kottayam marks a new
beginning in the healthcare system of Santhigiri.
Nava Arogya Dharma Siddhantam envisages:
1. To facilitate the evolution of a generations with spiritual, mental and
physical health.
2. To provide guidance in healthcare and to understand the reasons of diseases,
sufferings and sorrows in life.
3. To provide comprehensive healthcare to the people.
4. To organize regular awareness classes, seminars and workshops for
disseminating knowledge about healthcare and the need for leading a righteous
life.
