Santhigiri Siddha Medical College has been established by SANTHIGIRI ASHRAM imbibing the vision of it's Founder Guru, NAVAJYOTHISREE KARUNAKARA GURU.This college is the first ever English medium Siddha Medical College in the country and the first siddha college in the state of kerala. At present there are only five Siddha Medical Colleges other than this college in our country having Siddha graduate course. All those five colleges - two in Government sector and three in Private sector- are in Tamil Nadu. As these colleges are having Tamil Language as the medium of instruction, only students who have studied Tamil as an elective subject can join this course. Therefore this system could not receive proper exposure outside Tamil Nadu. In this scenario, Santhigiri came forward to universalize Siddha education by adopting the medium of instruction as the universal language English. Tamil has been made as a subject of study just like Sanskrit in Ayurveda medical course. Therefore the Siddha doctors coming out of Santhigiri Siddha Medical College will get global exposure. At present students from many foreign countries, eg. Switzerland have joined hereto learn the Siddha System of Medicine.
NAVAJYOTHISREE KARUNAKARA GURU, the founder of
SANTHIGIRI ASHRAM initiated a fresh beginning in the 'AROGYADHARMA
SIDHANTHAM' honouring and getting honoured by all other sciences
as well with love by the GRACE OF GOD. This initiation was through
the age old Indian System of Medicine Ayurveda and Siddha which were
handed down to humanity by the great sages and saints of the past.
The mission of Santhigiri Ashram, the instrument and medium founded
by GURU, is to bring forth the vision of GURU to the benefit of the
entire mankind. GURU has foreseen that the future mode of medicinal
systems and usage of medicines will not be of today and that it is
beyond the limits of human thought. It is the WILL OF GOD.
The modest beginning of GURU from SANTHIGIRI ASHRAM in
1972 to prepare some herbal decoction in an earthen pot in the
Ashram kitchen has gradually developed to the present comprehensive
Health Care Division. GURU gave great importance to the Siddha
System of Medicine, a system perfected by the Siddhars (the
enlightened persons) prevalent in the ancient Tamil Land.
Manufacture of Siddha medicines also started along with Ayurveda medicines and the name of the pharmacy has been changed as SANTHIGIRI AYURVEDA & SIDDHA VAIDYASALA giving equal importance to both systems. By the direction of GURU a number of combinations of Ayurveda and Siddha drugs have been developed which have been proved effective in curing many chronic diseases. Siddha medicines have been used in treatment also in Santhigiri group of hospitals.
