KARUNYAM (Free Health Care Programme)
The project 'Karunyam' launched by Santhigiri Ashram to provide and distribute free medicines and treatment to the needy is unique in its kind. Ayurveda and Siddha medicines are being provided free to sick people as part of the project, for 15 years. The approximate budget estimate of the project is calculated at Rs 35000crores. In the first phase the project implemented in Kerala approximately two lacks people was benefited. The inauguration of the state level implementation was done by Sri Mohammed Azharuddin, former Indian cricket team Captain. District level inaugurations were done by eminent personalities. Padmavibhushan Sri. Adoor Gopalakrishnan inaugurated the IInd phase of 'Karunyam' on 4th August 2006 at Kochi. So far conducted 300 free medical camps in Kerala & Tamilnadu and around 2 lakhs people have been benefited and follow - up their treatments in our hospitals.
CHANDIROOR - THE FIRST SIDDHA VILLAGE
Chandiroor in Alappuzha District is a beautiful village blessed by the birth of Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru. This village consists of 3000 houses. A team of medical students and experts from Santhigiri Siddha Medical College conducted door to door medical survey in the village. The survey was aimed at identifying the health problems of the villagers and formulating a long-term free healthcare programme for the villagers under ‘Karunyam Health Care Programme’.
As part of the project all the patients in the village will be issued free Health Cards for receiving prolonged free treatment. Though the project is intended to be for one year, it may be extended according to the situation. Every month, a team of doctors from Santhigiri Siddha Medical College will examine the patients and distribute medicines free of cost. The ultimate objective of the project is to make Chandiroor a disease-free village. Dr. Anbumani Ramdoss, Central Minister for Health and Family Welfare inaugurated the project on 5th September 2006 at Chandiroor.
SANTHIGIRI INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
ON HEALTH, PEACE & SPIRITUALITY
To a world plagued by the forces of destructive violence, debilitating disease and social discord, Santhigiri Ashram shows the beacon of light towards lasting peace and solace. Inspired by the teachings of the Guru, the Ashram organized a three-day international conference on the theme “Health, Peace and Spirituality” at Mammen Mappila Hall, Kottayam on 3rd, 4th and 5th January 2005. The land mark conference, underlining the vital connection between health, peace and spirituality, was organized as a precursor to the historic dedication of the Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru Research Centre for Ayurveda and Siddha by Hon'ble Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Anbumani Ramdoss, Hon'ble Union Minister for Health & Family Affairs. The conference, attended by a galaxy of foreign and national political leaders, peace activists including Nobel Laureates, social reformers, religious luminaries, leading medical practitioners and senior bureaucrats, has set the ground for a new initiative to promote peace and harmony, in order to send a new message to humanity of the 21st Century.
